What is the role of an
elementary school counselor?
The elementary school counselor provides services to help students with their academic, social, and emotional development. Some of the services provided include:
□ Individual and small group counseling
□ Classroom guidance lessons for all students
□ Parent conferences
□ Crisis intervention
□ Intervention Team coordinator
□ Community resources coordinator
What is “classroom guidance”?
Each classroom has a scheduled time for the counselor to visit. Guidance lessons are designed to help all children and primarily focus upon our monthly character traits, although there will be other topics, such as career education, bullying, drug prevention, and many others will be addressed as well.
