Middle school is an exciting, yet challenging time for students and their parents.  During this passage from childhood to adolescence, middle school students are characterized by a need to explore a variety of interests, connecting their learning in the classroom to its practical application in life and work.  Students search for their own unique identity and begin turning more freqently to peers rather than parents for ideas and affirmation.  There is a heavy reliance on friends to provide comfort, understanding and approval.

Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, counselors work as a team with school staff, parents and the community. The counselors create a caring, supportive climate and atmosphere whereby young adolescents can achieve academic success.  Middle school counselors enhance the learning process and promote academic achievement.  School counseling programs are essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set appropriate career goals and realize full academic potential.  The goal of our program is to help our students become productive, contributing members of the world community.

Hello and Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  My name is Sheryl Williams and I am the 5th, 6th and 7th grade counselor and IEP counselor for grades 5-12.This will be my 14th year as a school counselor at CLV.   I am a graduate of  Springville High School and currently reside in Ellicottville NY with my husband, Timothy. My daughter Tiffany graduated from RIT two years ago and now is working in the Washington DC area as a cyber security analyst and my daughter Taylor is currently in college at UB studying Occupational Therapy. We have two Golden Retrievers Sampson Goliath and Wilson(named after the ball in the movie Castaway) and two cats Waif and Jasmine . I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Fredonia State University and my Master’s Degree in School Counseling from St. Bonaventure University.

I am looking forward to a year of academic and social growth for the students.  As the school counselor I will assist the students in personal/social, academic, and career development.  I will be pushing into classrooms throughout the year to work with students this year on the 7 habits of successful teens as well as career education. The purpose of our character education program is to help our students learn to do their best and be their best!  Please talk to your child each month about the habits.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Williams
