    Crafts
    Course Description:
    In this full year course you will create artwork using a wide variety of media, techniques, concepts and procedures.  The objective of the course is for students to gain a sound understanding of mediums and techniques used throughout traditional and modern day cultures.  The units may include batiks, Japanese family crests, stained glass, engraving gourds, pysanky, basketry, and possibly many other interesting crafts.  You may be building on previously learned skills to create more sophisticated art pieces.

    Expectations:
    • Bring a traditional #2 pencil to class every day.
    • Arrive to class on time.
    • Show respect for others and their work.
    • Use equipment and materials responsibly.
    • Maintain a high attendance rate- as per the participation grade.
    • Keep a positive attitude and put forth effort and I promise your skill level and understanding of techniques will improve!
    • Live by "the golden rule of the Art room": Clean up after yourself and put your belongs away.

     

    Grading Policy:
         Projects: 30 points total
             5 pts. Craftsmanship
             5 pts. Originality and Creativity
             5 pts. Degree of Difficulty and Effort
             5 pts. Conpositional Design
             5 pts. Project Specifics and Finishing
             5 pts. Reflection
         
        Daily Participation: 8 pts
        Student can earn a maximum of 8 points each day.
        - 0 points: when a student is absent. **The student can make the class times up by working outside of the scheduled class, the "0" grade will be removed and newly earn participation grade will replace the zero.
        - 1 point: when a student is present but does not participate.
        - 2 points: when a student participates/works 5 minutes of class
        - 3 points: when a student participates/works 10 minutes of class
        - 4 points- when a student participates/works 15 minutes of class, cleans up, puts project away
        - 5 points: when a student participates/works 20 minutes of class, cleans up, puts project away
        - 6 points: when a student participates/works 25 minutes of class, cleans up, puts project away
        - 7 points- when a student participates/works 30 minutes of class, cleans up, puts project away
        - 8 points- when a student participates/works 35 minutes of class, cleans up, puts project away
     
    Late Work Policy:
           Based on Daily Participation Grades: 0-Absent; 1pt.-present no participation; 8pts.- 100% effort and participation and puts materials and project away, cleans area
           - students working consistently (earning 7 and 8 pts daily)and do not finish on time will be given additional time outside of class to complete the assignment. 
           - students with inconsistant effort (earning 1-45 pts daily) will be expected to stay after school to complete the assignment and lose 1 point each school day.
           - Incomplete projects will not be accepted beyond the end of the quarter.
     
    Homework: 10 pts
        Ocassionally, Students may be expected to do project preparation as a homework assignment. Research for resources; plein air assignment, sketchbook drawings
     
    Critique/Test: 15 pts
        Group or Individual Critiques: A process of objectively looking at artwork's strengths and weaknesses in design composition, meaning, and effectiveness.

     

    Extra Credit:

            Students can prepared a current event summary on the alternative weeks that we do not have a mandatory current event assignment for an extra 15 pt. grade.  

     

    Subject Matter

            Use common sense and good judgment, as per school appropriate standards determined by your instructor and administrator.
