TIER I INSTRUCTION & INTERVENTIONS

  • Tier 1 TIER 1 INTERVENTIONS

All students in Tier 1 receive high-quality, scientifically based instruction, differentiated to meet their needs, and are screened on a periodic basis to identify struggling learners who need additional support.

    DEFINITION:

Available to ALL students in a classroom or school. Can consist of whole-group, small-group or individual strategies or supports. Provided in the classroom or throughout the school as part of core instruction. It is an ongoing process of developing strong classroom instructional practices to reach the largest number of struggling learners.

    ESSENTIAL QUESTION:

Are strong classroom instructional strategies sufficient to help the student to achieve success?

    INDICATORS OF TIER I INTERVENTION

Universal Screening Analysis & the 80% Rule - If 80% of students are struggling to attain grade-level expectations, a Tier I Intervention should be put in place.
    1. Each benchmark period, the School-Based Team(SBT) will review and analyze the results of the Universal Screeners (i.e. Aimsweb, iReady, Running Records, Data Binders).

    2. Using the grade-level results, the SBT identifies ways to strengthen core curriculum and instructional strategies.

    3. Using classroom results, the teacher identifies areas, if applicable, to strengthen classroom instruction.

    4. The SBT reviews next benchmark results to determine if improvements have been made, with specific focus on the originally identified struggling learners.
