Dear High School Families, 

I would like to welcome everyone back to school and extend a special welcome to all our new students and their families. I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing summer. I am very excited to begin another tremendous year! 

Instructionally, our staff will continue to develop and implement engaging programs for students to meet the needs of all learners. I am confident we will continue to create exciting pathways for our students.  

I want to express my gratitude for the continued support and patience while we navigated through this pandemic. This year we will continue to have a strong focus on social emotional well-being and address various learning gaps. I am very excited about the expansion and continued improvement of our Wolves Den! This is a learning space in the middle/high school library where students are supported both 1:1 and in small groups to catch up on work, close learning gaps and get organized. A huge thank you goes out to Megan Brown, Danielle Newman and Bonnie Hall for their support in transitioning this program to the library. 

Back to school tips! 

1. Reach out to your child’s teachers: Attend Open House on 8/31/22 at 5:30. Make a point of introducing yourself and learning about class activities and expectations for the year. Find out how each teacher prefers to communicate. Many use e-mail as the main form of contact, but phone calls and conferences are welcome, too. Our first parent-teacher conference dates will be November 22nd and 23rd.  

1. Get in a routine: Establish healthy at-home routines for school days, such as consistent waking times and getting-ready patterns. Decide on a regular homework time, and create a comfortable, quiet workspace. Don’t forget about PAPER, our online tool for at-home tutoring help; free to all students. www.paper.co  

1. Stay involved: With help from parents like you, your school can offer many more programs and services for your kids. Join your school's PTA and ask about volunteer opportunities in the school community. Be sure to download the PowerSchool Parent Portal for daily access to grades and attendance. https://ps.clvschools.org/public/. Stay tuned for more information regarding our new communication tool, Parent Square. www.parentsquare.com

Hello Timberwolf families! I cannot believe we are approaching the close of another school year! Spring is the air, and we have some exciting things happening at the High School! We recently inducted 14 new members into the National Honor Society! New members include Logan Crowell, Marley Dundas, Acadia LeClerc, Jameson Marshall, Hunter McInerney, Jocelyn Mentley, Caitlin O’Neill, Onalee Osgood, Trinity Perkins, Natalee Reed, Donald Seamon, Olivia Seifleine, Kora Sentz and Anthony Visciano. We also had four students from CABOCES who will be inducted into the CTE National Technical Honor Society which include Layla Baker, Kessia Belec, Ryan Harper and Grace Zalwsky.  

Another new initiative we started late in the year was student of the month! Students recognized thus far from December through February include: 

With Springtime comes a renewed sense of focus, a renewed joy, and the promise of sunshine and laughter. CLV has many accomplishments to share. Our robotics class competed in the VEX Robotics tournament where they placed 9th out of 21 teams, our Natural Helpers participated in their annual retreat, our National Honor Society developed the first annual Souper-Bowl of Caring event, and our Drama Club put on a spectacular showing of Aladdin Jr! Our band and chorus members put on a tremendous Spring concert, our art students published remarkable pieces at the art show, and our athletic teams are shining both in and outside of the classroom! This past winter, we had our Girls Basketball Team earn the honor of a scholar athlete team while 6 athletes from our boys' basketball team, 8 athletes from our girls' basketball team and 6 athletes from the girls bowling team all earned individual scholar athlete recognition. 

Our FFA has brought back many awards which include Ag Issues team (2nd), Conduct of Chapter (1st), and Individual Creed Speaking (1st McKenzie Harvey) at the district 10 FFA Leadership Development Event. At the WNY Substates Competition, CLV received Conduct of Chapter Meeting (1st) and have qualified for the NY FFA State Convention, The Ag Issues team finished in 6th place with their topic on the dairy industry, and McKenzie Harvey placed 6th in the Junior Creed Speaking. Good luck to our students competing at the New York State FFA Convention in various events. 

Everyone seems to smile a bit more, and steps are lighter as we round out the next few months together. Seniors are wrapping up the year, committing to their post-graduation plans including college, military, and the work force. They are also applying for scholarships, planning for graduation, and our underclassmen are participating in course requests for next year; all while June quickly approaches. I wanted to take a moment and thank our counseling department as they continue to meet the needs of our students on a daily basis both academically and emotionally. This has been a stressful two years for staff and students and our counselors have not missed a beat! Be certain to check my Principal Webpage for important events scheduled for the remainder of the year which include, but are not limited to; Scholarship Night, Top 10 luncheon, and Graduation. 

In addition, thank you to the Board of Education, Superintendent, administrative team, district office staff, Deputy Miller (SRO), teachers, teacher aides, related service providers, technology department, nurses, cleaners, maintenance crew, psychologists, secretaries, coaches, cafeteria staff and transportation for their endless support and flexibility. Most importantly, our families at home. We could not have made it through this trying time without your support.

As we move into the second semester, many of our students and staff are beginning to feel the crunch of course selections for next year, graduation, Regents exams, college and career visits, financial aid, scholarships, and the idea of, “What’s next?” We are extremely fortunate to have so many hard working and dedicated people in this community that support our students in achieving their goals in high school and support the various post-secondary plans our seniors are exploring. This is a stressful time for many seniors as they prepare for the next step in their lives. Rest assured our staff at CLV is committed to the success and preparation of every graduating senior. I encourage parents or students who may still have questions or concerns regarding scheduling or post-secondary plans to reach out to Mrs. Casey Barber (11th and 12th graders) and Mr. Jeff Goodridge (9th and 10th graders) in Student Services. Seniors should continue to check their email regularly, visit the scholarship page on the Student Services website and stay focused on finishing strong this school year. We are committed to preparing every senior to walk that stage and feel prepared for what is next in their lives. 

This year, we have implemented a few “new” things to the high school that I am extremely excited about. First and foremost, student of the month! We have so many students achieving wonderful things both in and outside of the classroom and it has been a terrific opportunity to highlight those accomplishments. The second activity we have had a strong focus on is our social emotional learning (SEL) activities. December’s theme was “Live to Give” where we had a warming table outside the office with warm clothing and accessories for students in need. January was “We are connected” where each student in our building printed their name on a chain link. That chain was hung up in the atrium to school to indicate that, we are connected. As we wrap up January and February, we move into Everything is Possible for February/March. April will have a focus of Passion First. The students have been engaged and participating in our large group activities.  

Despite the many challenges we have faced over the last couple of years, our teachers continue to strive to meet the needs of all learners while continuing to be innovative, flexible, and understanding of how this pandemic has affected our students both academically and social-emotionally. I am reminded daily; how lucky I am to be surrounded by amazing educators.

Dear CLV Students, Parents and Community Members, 

CLV High School has been off to a great start! Students are happy to be back in classes and it’s been wonderful to see so many students involved in sports, extracurricular clubs and activities, both in and outside of school. We have a tremendous group of students representing Cattaraugus-Little Valley in a very positive manner.  

Our school counselors worked diligently all summer to provide a variety of elective offerings to students. We also offer college courses through Jamestown Community College, Saint Bonaventure University, and Syracuse University. We currently have 64 students attending CTE BOCES programs, as well. This well-rounded group of students have shown nothing but resiliency over the last year and a half.  

Our teachers attended multiple professional development opportunities over the summer related to curriculum, technology, online instruction, and social emotional learning (SEL); just to name a few. The faculty and staff at CLV continue to go above and beyond for the whole child, day in and day out. Our staff members are committed to supporting all students both in and outside of the classroom. I think I can speak for everyone when I say how amazing it is to have students back in class five days a week! A huge thank you goes out to all the parents, guardians, and community members who have supported staff and students throughout this pandemic. 

Our Educational Support Coordinator, Megan Brown, has been extremely busy supporting our students who are at home learning for any COVID related reason. Her addition to our team has been extremely beneficial and her commitment to students to maintain engagement, prevent additional learning gaps and support children, has not gone unnoticed. We are very lucky to have her!
