APPR - Teacher & Principal Evaluation

On June 3, 2016, the Cattaraugus-Little Valley CS APPR plan was approved by the New York State Education Department. The following At-A-Glance document outlines the new requirements of the plan as outlined in Education Law 3012-d:

Teacher Effectiveness Ratings

According to the 3012-d requirements, teachers will no longer receive a composite score out of 100. Instead, they will receive an Overall Effectiveness Ra ting based on the rating earned in the Student Performance Category and Observation Category using the NYSED-developed matrix

Part I: Student Performance Category

This category is calculated based on student performance on State assessments or iReady, a 3rd party vendor. According to the APPR plan, teachers will be evaluated based on the following assessment calculations:

K - 2 Teachers 

District-Wide Score using 4 & 8 Science, Living Envior, Earth Science, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, ELA

 Gr 3 Teachers   

Student Learning Objective (SLO)

using NYS ELA and math exams

* moratorium on 3-8 testing, will use

District-Wide Score until 2019-20 

Gr 4 - 8 ELA and Math Teachers 

Student Learning Objective (SLO)

using NYS ELA and math exams

 Teachers whose course ends in a State Exam: 4/8 Science; Regents courses

Teachers whose course does not end in a State Exam: 6-8 SS; 6-7 Science; Global 1; Eco; ELA 9, 10, 12; All Elective Courses; Special Education; Speech; Library; AIS

District-Wide Score using 4 & 8 Science, Living Envior, Earth Science, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, ELA

The teacher’s effectiveness rating in this category will be determined using the following NYSED-developed scale.

Part 2: Teacher Observation

This category is based on the results of the announced and unannounced observations. The teacher’s effectiveness rating in this category will be determined using the scale.

Evaluation Process

Announced [Domains 1-4]:

  1. Determine date/less to be observed.

  2. Complete the Lesson Plan Template.

  3. Schedule a Pre-observation.

  4. Lesson observation by evaluator.

  5. Post Conference.

Unannounced [Domains 2-3]: 

  1. Lesson observation by evaluator.

  2. Post Conference.
