The purpose of the Child Study Team (CST) is for a group of educators, with various roles, to brainstorm supports and interventions when a student is not showing progress. CST meetings follow a specific protocol to ensure that all voices are heard and time is spent focusing on determining the root cause of the student's roadblocks. By the end of the meeting, the team will walk away with a step-by-step plan that includes a defined intervention, a strategy for progress monitoring, and a follow-up date to review student progress. In some instances, additional testing or evaluation may be requested. 

Step #1: Initial Child Study Team (Cst) Meeting

1. Complete the CST Referral Form.

2. The building principal will schedule a meeting with the referring teacher and appropriate support staff.

3. Before the meeting, the referring teacher should collect data (screening, drill down, anecdotal, etc.) that best demonstrates the student's deficit. Please bring a copy of the original referral form, which will be sent via email. 

4. At the meeting, the team will conduct an analysis of the root cause for the student deficit, and identify a plan of action for further intervention.

Step #2: Follow Up Child Study Team (Cst) Meeting

1. If an intervention has been selected, the CST will review the progress monitoring data to determine if progress is being made. 

   • If progress is being made, the student will continue on the intervention plan. 

   • If no progress is being made, the CST team will consider next steps, which could (but not necessarily) include a request for evaluation, initiating the retention protocol, and/or a referral to CSE.
