What is the role of an elementary school counselor?
The elementary school counselor provides services to help students with their academic, social, and emotional development. Some of the services provided include:
Individual and small group counseling
Classroom lessons for all students
Parent conferences
Crisis intervention
CSE team member and RtI member
Community resources coordinator
What is “classroom guidance”?
Each classroom has a scheduled time for the counselor to visit. Lessons are designed to help all children and primarily focus on topics such as coping skills, emotion awareness, mindfulness, friendship, career education, bullying, empathy, making healthy choices as well as many other important subjects.
