Elementary Curriculum
ELA and Math at CLV Elementary
At Cattaraugus-Little Valley Elementary, we are committed to providing a strong foundation in literacy and mathematics for every student.
English Language Arts (ELA):
We use the Wonders program aligned with the New York State ELA Standards, with a strong emphasis on the Science of Reading. This approach ensures that students develop essential skills in phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, building confident and capable readers and writers.
Mathematics:
Our math instruction follows the New York State Modules and standards, providing a rigorous and coherent progression of concepts. Students engage in problem-solving, critical thinking, and real-world applications to deepen their understanding of mathematical ideas.
How Parents Can Support at Home
For ELA:
Read with your child daily and talk about the story together.
Practice sight words and encourage writing at home (letters, lists, short stories).
Ask questions that help your child explain what they’ve read—this builds comprehension skills.
For Math:
Practice math facts and number sense through games and everyday activities (like cooking or shopping).
Encourage your child to explain their thinking when solving problems.
Use real-life examples to make math meaningful—measuring ingredients, counting change, or estimating time.
Your involvement makes a huge difference! Together, we can help every Timberwolf grow into a confident reader, writer, and problem-solver.
