Hello and Welcome to the 2024 - 2025 school year! My name is Sheryl Williams and I am the 5th, 6th & 7th grade counselor and IEP counselor for grades 5-8. This will be my 20th year as a School Counselor at CLV. I am a graduate of Springville High School, received my Bachelor’s Degree from Fredonia State University and my Master’s Degree in School Counseling from St. Bonaventure University. I currently reside in Ellicottville NY with my husband, Tim, our cat that we rescued named Little "O" and our dog "Wilson" who is the most affectionate and lovable golden retriever. My daughters Tiffany and Taylor are grown and starting their adult lives.
I am looking forward to a year of academic and social growth for the students. As the school counselor, I will assist the students in personal/social, academic, and career development.
I will be pushing into classrooms throughout the year to work with students on our social-emotional program for the new school year.
The five competencies of our social emotional learning program are as follows:
Self-awareness
How we view ourselves and our emotions, and how we interact with the world. This includes identifying emotions, accurate self-perception, recognizing strengths, self-confidence, and self-efficacy.
Self-management
The ability to regulate emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in different situations. This includes effectively managing stress, controlling impulses, motivating oneself, setting and working toward goals, and organizational skills.
Social awareness
The ability to take the perspective of and empathize with others, including those from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Relationship skills
Focusing on the other person and how to treat them positively. This can include conflict resolution plans that teach students how to treat others respectfully, empathetically, kindly, cooperatively, fairly, and actively listening.
Responsible decision-making
Can be helpful for academic success, school and civic engagement, health and wellness, and fulfilling careers.
The purpose of our social-emotional education program is to help our students learn to do their best and be their best!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sheryl Williams, School Counselor
