detectives

In March, Mrs. Harrington's Grade 6 Social Studies class went to the library and went on an imaginary camel caravan around Ancient Egypt. Students visited primary and secondary sources brought by Mrs. Benatovich, Library Media Specialist. Students got to investigate destinations, ask "I wonder" questions, and use their detective skills to make observations.

Students discovered remarkable finds like hidden images of a sphinx on Egyptian money that they could only see when held up to the light, that a "souk" is a name for "market" and is like a farmer's market, an entire item needed for the journey. Lastly, students observed that the pyramids' sides look smooth from a distance and rough up close and discussed possible methods for transporting the extensive stonework to make them! What an incredible journey - students could share their questions and observations at the end with the whole class so everyone could learn new, exciting information about Ancient Egypt!
