Lockdown Drill Notification – Cattaraugus‑Little Valley Central School District

Today, the Cattaraugus‑Little Valley Central School District will be conducting a lockdown drill as part of our ongoing commitment to the safety of our students and staff.
New York State requires lockdown drills to help ensure that students and staff know how to respond appropriately in an emergency. Please be assured that this is only a drill and poses no real threat to our schools.

During the drill, students may notice additional law enforcement presence on or near school grounds. This is a planned and precautionary part of the exercise.

We’re excited to share some highlights from our FFA contests at SUNY Cobleskill and our recent field trip to Eden Valley Creamery and Telaak Farms.

🐄 FFA Contest Highlights:
Our students competed in Meat Evaluation, Milk Quality, and Ag Mechanics against about 40 teams from across New York—an impressive showing!

One Meat Evaluation team placed 7th, with Maddy Meyer earning a spot in the top 10 individually! 🎉 The second team placed 21st.
In Milk Quality, our teams placed 20th and 22nd, with Brooke Hess ranking 42nd out of approximately 150 competitors—great job!
Our Ag Mechanics team placed 34th, which is especially impressive with only three team members competing against mostly four-member teams.

We are so proud of our students for their dedication, teamwork, and effort in these highly competitive events! 👏

🧀 Field Trip Highlights:
Before break, students from Mrs. Laurie’s Dairy & Livestock class and our Food Science class explored local agriculture in action.

At Eden Valley Creamery, students sampled a variety of cheeses, flavored milk, and ice cream—with maple cinnamon milk as a clear favorite! 😋 They also toured the processing facility and learned from industry professionals about cheese production and marketing.
The day wrapped up at Telaak Farms, a multi-generational dairy farm near Ellicottville. Students experienced modern farming firsthand, including robotic milking systems, feed mixers, and manure vacuums, while also learning about the farm’s history and the importance of communication and teamwork in agriculture.

It was a fantastic day of hands-on learning, and students truly enjoyed exploring the world of local agriculture! 🌾
